Association for Women in Communications - Clarion Awards (August 2004)
- 1st Place, Major News Event, to The Record for "Lights Out," comprehensive coverage on the 2003 Blackout of the Northeast
- 1st Place, Newspaper Hard News Story, to The Record for "Trail of Neglect," team coverage led by Jean Rimbach and Amy Klein, about 5-year-old Cheyanne Manookian, who found two of her baby brothers dead - one strangled in a window blind, the other drowned in a bathtub - within 19 months of each other. Reporters uncovered long evidence of parental neglect by the family in two states where authorities had not intervened or shared their concerns.

- Daniel Pearl Award for Best Investigative/Series Reporting to The Record for "Pay to Play," an 18-month-long series delving into New Jersey's deep-rooted system awarding government contracts to political contributors. (This award was a tie win with The (Newark) Star-Ledger)
- Minority Issues Award to The Record for a series on Politics and Immigration, in which reporters Jeff Pillets and Clint Riley detailed questionable fund-raising methods in the Asian Indian community by then-gubernatorial candidate Jim McGreevey.

Developed by Cynthia Forster of the NIE Dept., this weekly series featuring historic sites in North Jersey was complemented with classroom teaching guides to assist area teachers in incorporating local history in their lesson plans.
