- General Excellence Award to The Record
This is the state's most prestigious newspaper award. The 2001 presentation was the sixth time in nine years that the honor was accorded to The Record.
- Journalist of the Year - Reporter Brian Kladko of The Record
This is the state's most prestigious award to a newspaper writer. The 2001 presentation to Brian Kladko was the third consecutive year that the honor went to a staff writer at The Record. Kladko's outstanding series, "Cracks in the Fire Wall," was especially credited.
